Boatie Rows Launched
The last boat to be built and launched in Port Seton was 44 years ago!
On Saturday the 8th of May 2010, the launch of ‘Boatie Rows’ celebrated the return of the tradition of boatbuilding to the area. Two St. Ayles skiff kits were delivered to the Boatie Blest boatshed at Port Seton Harbour in January of this year. Just over four months later, the first boat is ready to be officially launched on Saturday 8th May at Port Seton harbour

BOATIE BLEST LAUNCHED
The Cockenzie and Port Seton Pipes and Drums did a fantastic job leading the procession down the High Street.
Proud Builders walked in front of their second boat which was decorated with the Friendly Society of Fishermen banner. There were also elements of the traditional Box Meeting, apart from the rain, with a stop for a drink and a reel outside the Thorntree Inn. Fisherwomen, rowers, builders and everyone else inclined to do so, joined followed the lead of seasoned dancer, Archie Johnston and the expert musicianship of the Pipe Major, Roderick Paton. Disregarding the drizzle, we arrived at the Boat Shore where the boat was laid on the beach awaiting her launch. Archie Johnston addressed the gathering and tribute was paid to the boat builders who struck various poses for the numerous photographers.

2013 SKIFFIE WORLDS AND NEW SKIFF
We named and launched our new boat, Boatie Lodge.
There was bodging, building, painting and whining about our Heath Robinson footboards to the very last minute, but we completed the skiff in time. Those who rowed in her did us proud. We were true to our community ideals and everybody in the club who wanted to row, got into a boat and raced at Ullapool, and I am sure in this we were not alone.

SKIFFIE WORLDS - STRANGFORD LOUGH
A busy time for Boatie Blest dominated by preparations for the Skiffie World Championships.
The Skiffie Worlds were first held in Ullapool in 2013 and the Club put in an excellent showing that time around. Since then the number of boats built by communities had increased substantially from around 50 to well over 170. Preparations have been underway at Strangford for the past year and over 40 clubs and boats were expected to attend the week-long event. Club members were determined to try to beat their medal success in 2013 this time around and the only way to do that was to train in teams for the 2km long course. Club Captain Stuart Mack drew up teams for 13 separate categories and crews started to prepare in March. The residents of Wemyss Place and Viewforth are due every sympathy for the early Sunday morning oar clunking and occasional raised voice of Coxes encouraging their crews.

SKIFFIE WORLDS - STRANRAER
Boatie Blest travelled to stranraer on the 6th of July for a week full of excitement.
All 3 boats were packed to their gunwales and left the shed in convoy with the 4th smaller supply ship (The Bathtub) precariously balanced in the top of Boatie Blest, with imminent failure looming. With multiple marquees and enough tools to build a fleet of boats and fix every eventuality which might occur (that will be continued later) the skiffs and the toys set off in convoy for Stranraer.
